How to quickly solve the ESR problem of electrolytic capacitors?

Issuing time:2024-11-17 11:55

In electronic circuits, electrolytic capacitors are widely used by engineers due to their large capacity and low cost. However, the biggest problem with electrolytic capacitors is their equivalent series resistance (ESR). If left untreated, it not only affects the charging and discharging efficiency of the capacitor, but also leads to voltage fluctuations and heat accumulation. Therefore, it must be solved in a timely manner!

1. Using low ESR electrolytic capacitors

Replace the existing ordinary electrolytic capacitors with specially designed low ESR electrolytic capacitors on the market. These capacitors have been optimized in manufacturing process and material selection to reduce ESR resistance.

2. Parallel connection of capacitors

If space permits, use multiple electrolytic capacitors in parallel to share the current and reduce the overall ESR. Although this method increases the size and cost of the circuit, it is still effective in certain situations where high ESR requirements are needed.

3. Parallel connection of ceramics and electrolytic capacitors

In applications such as small volume power supplies, due to space limitations, it is possible to consider using ceramic capacitors in parallel with electrolytic capacitors. Ceramic capacitors have extremely low ESR, which can compensate for the shortcomings of electrolytic capacitors in this regard.

4. Multi layer ceramic capacitor replacement

For applications that require smaller volume and lower ESR, multi-layer ceramic capacitors can be used instead of multiple individual ceramic capacitors. Multilayer ceramic capacitors not only have extremely low ESR, but also smaller volume, making them more suitable for high-density circuit design.
